What’s worse than seeing your favorite luxury bag sold out right at the checkout point?
Actually buying it, unboxing it with so much excitement...
Only to find out it’s FAKE.
Every fashion girlie’s worst nightmare!
As a fellow Chanel enthusiast, I know how heartbreaking it is to invest in a bag only to doubt its authenticity.
That’s why we at Luxcross curated these 10 insider tips (the ones resellers would literally HATE us for spilling!) to help you confidently spot a fake.
Look for the interlocking CC logo on the turn-lock. On authentic Chanel bags, the right C always overlaps the left at the top, and the left C overlaps at the bottom. Fakes often mirror this incorrectly.
Pro Tip: Run your finger over the engraving. It should feel crisp, not shallow or uneven.
Bags to check: Classic Flap, 2.55, Coco Handle.
What to look for: Stitching should be exactly 11 stitches per quilted diamond on most Classic Flaps. Fakes often have fewer (8–9) or uneven stitching.
Authentic Chanel chains have a solid, luxurious feel. The Boy Bag, for example, has a heavy chain with alternating matte and shiny links. Fake chains often feel too light or plasticky.
A card doesn’t guarantee authenticity. Many counterfeit bags come with fake authenticity cards.
Instead, compare the serial number on the leather tab inside the bag with the number on the card. No hologram sticker? That’s a red flag.
Check for: clean, evenly spaced lettering inside the bag.
On fake bags, the font is often too thick, too thin, or slightly misaligned.
Key bags to inspect: Reissue 2.55, Gabrielle Hobo.
Authentic Chanel bags use 24K gold-plated or palladium hardware, which develops a soft patina over time but won’t chip or tarnish easily. Fake hardware often looks brassy or peels after minimal use.
Find it: Inside the bag, on a small leather tab.
Format matters:
You can also check the authenticity of the serial number here.
On a Classic Flap, the quilting on the back pocket should line up perfectly with the chevron pattern on the rest of the bag. Fakes often have misaligned quilting.
Authentic: The dust bag is soft, off-white, and has a crisp "CHANEL" logo in black. Fake dust bags are often bright white, shiny, or have blurry text.
Different Chanel bags have unique features that counterfeiters often miss.
Now you know how to spot a fake Chanel bag and shop with confidence.
This guide focuses on Chanel, but we’ll be rolling out authentication guides for Hermès, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton soon.
